Union Finance Minister Inaugurates GST Bhawan in Udaipur: A Modern Hub for Tax Administration
Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, inaugurated the GST Bhawan in Udaipur, Rajasthan, on August 23, 2024. This state-of-the-art official complex, housing the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Udaipur Commissionerate under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), marks a significant milestone in the modernization of India’s tax administration infrastructure.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including Shri Manna Lal Rawat, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha); Shri Chunnilal Garasiya, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha); Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Chairman of CBIC; Shri Shashank Priya, Member of CBIC; Shri Rajiv Talwar, Member of CBIC; Shri Surjit Bhujabal, Member of CBIC; and Shri Mahendra Ranga, Chief Commissioner of CGST Jaipur Zone. Senior officers from CBIC, along with officers and staff from CGST Udaipur Commissionerate and Jaipur zone, were also present.
In her keynote address, Smt. Sitharaman highlighted the economic importance of the Udaipur Commissionerate. Situated in a region known for its production of vital commodities such as zinc, lead, silver, cement, fertilizer, and tyres, the Udaipur Commissionerate plays a crucial role in supporting the industrial backbone of Rajasthan. The Finance Minister praised the timely and budget-compliant completion of the GST Bhawan project, noting that this achievement was particularly commendable given the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the inauguration event, Smt. Sitharaman also launched ICETAB 2.0, a handheld device designed to revolutionize customs operations. This device allows for the real-time uploading of examination reports and facilitates quicker clearance of cargoes, significantly enhancing the efficiency of customs processes. The introduction of ICETAB 2.0 is expected to streamline operations and reduce delays, benefiting both businesses and the economy at large.
